Argentine Tango Lessons

TBA 2019
"I’ve been taking lessons from Louis for several years - both group classes and private lessons. He is an excellent teacher - very good at teaching to the level of the student and extremely patient. He makes learning tango easy and fun." Sharon Bailin

Dance Standing Still: Meditation

Focus in practice: concentration, rather than mindless repetition, is the key to fruitful practicing!
My aim is to assist students to dance more freely and expressively. The process of learning includes releasing the student's unique musical personality and building a solid technical foundation.
By concentrating on the purpose of a body movement rather than the movement itself, the body will naturally and automatically produce a better result. Meaningless practice is futile without some meaningful purpose of the dance movements. When listening carefully to the music, by connecting musical imagination and muscular sensations, we dance momentously!

Easily learn to tango with a life long dancer. Louis prepares students to dance tango in a milonga. As a fun social class, learn the tango embrace and connection to partner, tango walk, essential sequences with technique, navigation... all in the context of improvisation, continuity and musical interpretation. Students ought to be willing to laugh, look silly and have fun meeting new dancers. Dancing is an incredibly healthy lifestyle.

Learn How to Dance Argentine Tango
From personal dance experience, to really begin to know the secret of the Tango is to be mindfully present, aware of your dance partner, the tango dance music and to note what your senses perceive! From lessons to the time you enter the dance hall, clear your mind by dropping the stories about the past or future. Let your expectations, planning, worries and thoughts all go for now. As you make eye contact and/or a slight head nod with a dance partner, you rise upon the dance floor, let yourself fall into the experience and flow of the dance.
Easy to do; hard to remember to do this!
However, notwithstanding the above, dancing is a very healthy lifestyle. Noteworthy qualities for students to learn to dance are... willing to laugh, look silly and have fun meeting new dancers. Now, are you ready to commit to the time, mental and physical effort to learn to dance tango? If so, read on...

Learning Tango!
There are several styles of Tango but the styles mainly fall into two general categories of close embrace or open embrace. These styles are danced in milongas or Tango Dances.
* Villa Urquiza/salon style - flexible embrace & close embrace - Apilado/intimate/Milonguero.

In tango classes, I teach and prepare students to dance tango in a milonga:
* Argentine Tango walking with smooth weight transfer, beginner movements and patterns in the context of continuity and musical interpretation.
* Learn to be "mindful" dancing.
* The technicalities of a soft and firm posture, gently connecting with a tango partner and listening to tango music and practicing the tango on the dance floor.
* Introduction and interpretation of tango musicality and rhythm with the dance tango music of Buenos Aires.
* In addition to Tango dancing, begin to experience "heart Tango", the essence and passion that is seducing the heart and soul of tango dancers.

Use it or Lose it!
Medical researchers state use your intelligence or lose it. Dancing frequently was the greatest risk reduction of any activity, cognitive or physical, and the only activity for protection against dementia. Dancing integrates several brain functions at once, increasing connectivity.  Dancing simultaneously involves kinesthetic, rational, musical and emotional processes. Therefore take the kinds of dance classes where you must make as many split-second decisions as possible. That's key to maintaining true intelligence. The key is the decision-making. Freestyle lead and follow requires a lot of split-second decision-making, in both the lead and follow roles.
What kind of dancing? Tango!

A gift idea: "Thank you for being my friend"!
I avoid giving consumer items and strongly prefer to give someone a joyful “experience”! Since I am partial to music, dance and a healthy lifestyle, I suggest a gift for dance lessons, particularly, Argentine Tango Lessons, to someone special in your life, maybe YOU!
